Souht padre newbie

Hey yall, from north Texas and been wantin to head over to south padre and check out some surf. Im new but completely stoked! Ive been thinking bout camping off the beach, and tryin an hour lesson and feelin out some rental boards. Any fellow Texans or anyone familiar w/ the area would like to toss any advise would be cool, also any locals who want to hang and show me and some buddies a few tips, we'll supply the beer man!

Don't know much about SPI surf but they do have a school down there. It's a drive though.

Not sure where in North Texas you are located but you ought to check out the Corpus area, the beaches there have semi-consistent waves (for Texas, anyway) and are probably at least a few hours closer to you than SPI. Port Aransas in particular has some good, mellow beginner waves and a friendly vibe, usually less crowded than the CC spots. Maybe check out Galveston too depending on where you're located.
