ripper,
You wrote, "living in california u could see the worst wave ever and there will still be TONS of guys out surfing and trying to get that wave." That's true in some regions of CA. I've seen it, too. There are regions, however, where I've been the only one. And I've also surfed in CA where there were not too many others for the conditions. It just depends and you probably know this. But, boy o' boy, if you can only surf where there are lots of other guys (like Malibu down to through LA and parts of San Diego), it will get anyone mad. Ha, ha, I remember seeing so many young guys at the Hook in Santa Cruz that they were banging into eachother.

I surf in England and rarely get dropped in on. So when i went to California, it annoyed me so much!! Every single wave someone would drop in on me! Like you, i nearly got into loads of fights then, but, when they realise what they've done, they tend to paddle off quickly before i can reach them!

I don't have this issue really. If I paddle out and everyone is cool, we take turns and have a nice chill day riding the break. If I get out and people are dropping in on each other, I surf and just refuse to budge unless someone has a better position. Most of the guys around here are toothpicks riding toothpicks, I'm @ about 200 lbs. and they WILL move for me. I've yet to get in a fight, although I have exchanged a few words while out in the lineup.

I've got about 16 years of martial arts training and for me, fighting is not a good option. Everybody expects that a UFC or MMA guy would be happy to scrap, but honestly when you have trained for hand to hand combat that much, the rules aren't exactly the same. As pissed off as you might get, you probably don't want to really hurt anyone, much less a fellow surfer, and when your expertise is hard hits and breaking bones/joint reversals any damage dealt could be catastrophic.

Even when they are being total dousche's and deserve a good tail whoopin it's better to be the bigger man and walk away. The minute someone else tries to lay hands though its on, and god help them.

i once kicked my board out on a guy who kept on dropping in on everyone. i hit his ass. everyone around me was like yeah good job! take that scum! locals only! Its not a problem unless YOU make it a problem. i surf here in socal, where teh waves are decent i would say. the problem is when PUNKS and people who don't respect the lineup start acting showy or once they catch a wave they paddle right back out to the front of the lineup. These are the people that piss me off, and get my board to their ass or a drop in by a local. i was always taught to respect the older people, but some of the people these days, i'm only 20, these punks have no parents beating their ass.

ya exactly bro.i respect my elders and the ppl who r definetly superior to me 110%.but the ppl who arnt from socal and dont know how the locals do it around here piss me off.they think they r better than everyone and try to slip into the wave ahead of everyone else who have been waiting and that doesnt fly well with me.
