Need help with airs

Postby Mitsven board rider » Sat Aug 22, 2009 3:27 pm

I've been working on airs for about half a month and every time I go for one it's either I get into the air and then land on the lip and fall back or my my tail won't get above the lip.Any tips on getting into the air and landing.

I'm 200lbs, the most I get is about an inch or two, but it's simply the same lip turn as I usually do, just charge it harder and more vertical. Don't try for air, try for a really high cutback, the air will happen on your best ones...

Don't start too big. Learn on the small waves first and build up. Just do it over and over again.

i found that when you find that section that really is about to break, you bottom turn, very slowly, when you reach the top swing your arms up to your head(for starters), bend your knees to your chest, you will find that doing this will really increase your height. just practice it over and over till you get use to that

Not sure if you have a boat, but what helped me a ton was skurfing behind a boat. Make sure the line is really short. You want to be surfing the actual peeling wave that stays about 10ft behind the boat. Have everyone in the boat sit on the same side as the rider, and you'll get a nice lip. Practice popping off of it with the rope in your hand for stability. You'll get the feel for it real quick, then take that knowledge to the lineup with you.

Agreed! Wake Surfing is awesome for practicing airs!
