Floating-aid saftey good

Postby WiSh » Mon Feb 14, 2011 5:38 pm

Hi all,

I am a newbie surfer and I have found something interesting in the shop the other day. It is a watch which gives you a floating aid when you pull the trigger. I have searched on the internet but doesn't see anyone comment on it.

I want to buy something to protect myself but not sure how useful is it.

Does it help? Or will you be interested? Please kindly share your thoughts. Thanks.

Isn't a surfboard a better 'floating aid'?

Well Wish , lots of problems here for this sort of device, first you need to be conscious to activate, secondly a flotation device under most except the extreme type surfing is not necessarily the best thing to have.
I would advocate learning to swim strongly and a legrope ( leash).
Like Dbbyb said your board is a flotation device I've had to rescue so many newbies who when they can't paddle against the rip abandon their board or body board and try to swim against the rip.
Knowledge of your beach and going out on days you can handle after you've learnt to swim.
BTW I think too many learner surfers think legropes mean you don't need to be able to swim well.
Wrong, leashes fail! Also swimming is great cross training.

I'm guessing the level you're at but go with a knowledgeable friend.
Good luck enjoy

it may work, but I wouldnt trust it.. I figure- charge as hard as you can, but always be able to come back in when you need to. and have someone else there, the ocean gets vicious fast. I'd prefer to trust my own swimming ability and my board than a watch.. things go wrong, that's all. I hadn't heard of them before you posted it though, interesting find!
