Postby Holey moley » Tue Dec 14, 2010 3:17 am

Hey im 14 and 5 ft and 105 pounds and im not fat at all if youre wondering and i need some help on duckdiving. I surf steamer lane all the time but when it gets big like 5-6 feet my duck diving turns to xxxxx. I use my knee to duck dive. first i weight till close to whit wash and then i sink for a lil bit like 2 feet and then use my knee to thrust up but the wash flips me over. and i am a intermediate grom and my board is 5'7 20 inches wide and 2" 7/16 thick and like about 14" at the tail :woot: :?

use your full weight and press downward. lean into it. use your back leg for a higher amount of weight on your board. then as the wave comes, you will feel your board get pulled, try to then pull yourself toward your board before the wave comes and then use your back leg and push it to pull yourself back out. its easier if you just let the wave do the work, where you don't have to push your leg to pull you out]

haha hope you like my detailed picture!

Took me a couple of looks to figure out that picture. It is correct for those who duckdive using their feet not their knees. One aspect many people forget when describing the duckdive is to push the board forwards before you pull yourself towards it. this gives you that extra bit of penetration under the wave.

the point at which you push forwards should be once the nose and tail of the board are sunk so that as you push forwards you take your foot off the tail with an extra kick down and forwards as well if you want. then dive down to the board and angle it back towards the surface. its all about timing and on a good duckdive the steps all blur into one motion.
