A question on Biscuit

Hey all, I got a Biscuit yesterday after trying for two days on different sizes.

Settled on a 5'10" as a 6'0" was too floaty and couldn't duck dive, and the 5'8" was about same as 5'10" to duck dive (I think the width on those two were less, I think 6 was 21 1/2 and 5 8/10 was 20)

Anyway, my question is what waves can these board handle up to?

I heard slater went on 6-8 ft pipe with one of these, but I'm wondering what an average type surfer would be able to do

It handles ankle tappers not too bad, but needs the write one to get it going... so nothing like a fish I once tried, even turns need a bit more power from the wave to really shine.

Anyway, I have a good few beaches I would like to try my new lover with and one of them gets maybe 8-9 ft, and before I got there, want to make sure my board can actually handle it haha

It is a 5'10" x 20" x 2 5/8" board with pintail.

I just want to know what this board is capable of it's awesome from the few days I've tried it already! Even the 5'8" caught the ankle tappers like a charm, but needed much more power to get going... Hell I could have gone to a 5'6" maybe 5'4" with how these boards are... Just the conditions and places I surf are so varied I need something from ankle tappers to 8ft or so...

And the guy I bought from couldn't give me a 100% answer but, it's a thruster setup, and I know it was designed for thruster, but on smaller waves like 2-3ft what about removing the middle fin, and changing out the 2 side fins for twin board fins? Would that maybe be better?

I don't have a biscuit but do own a disc, same board, but mine is bigger cause I'm a big surfer.

I use mine in small stuff and all the way up to overhead+, but depending on the wave. If it is steep or hollow I go to my shortboard, but if not I've had it out as it scraped the bottom of the pier at OB, but it was not hollow. So, not as much the size but the shape. Biggest I've used mine was at a point break in baja, where the wave was peeling perfect instead of curling with about 10ft faces.

So at a break like longbeach or noordhoek in Cape Town this board should be fine then? I mean it does get steep there and does barrel even in small surf... I know it's better a little further out, but it still barrels and pretty fast and by my standards a thick lip too.

I did take it there yesterday seemed somewhat fine... But it still kinda freaked me out to still learn the little adjustments on a wave that is very shallow and is painful if catch and get caught in barrel closeout near shore where it breaks quite often...

EDIT: I just looked at the disc and it looks quite different as not too rounded like a mal is. Mine is pointy on both ends the width is just stretched further forward a bit... hang on lemme find a link

check out the movie "The Drifter", Machado rides a 5'2" Biscuit in well overhead barrels in indo. its an all around awesome movie, definitely one of my favorites. its got a way different feel than most surf films and itll prob be cool for you to see how well the Biscuit performs in bigger surf. check out the trailer here:

"disc" is just a general description, all boards that aren't that pointy are basically discs unless they have have a fish (swallow tail). The Rusty toad, the CI Biscuit, the CI Pod, the Lost Blunt, they are all disc type boards. Sorry to confuse you.

So, back to original post. I don't think I would use mine in long beach, huntington or newport, too steep a wave, unless it's high tide and not barreling. I dig how easy it is to get into waves and the much higher wave count I get on mine, but when it comes to steep waves it doesn hold high and even worse sometimes it slides out completely since I am used to digging the rail hard.

But, yes, I saw the Machado video and he surfs primarily small bicout type boards, reguardless of conditons, but mostly cause he can LOL

I went to a tiny break yesterday and was a complete mess, and by that I mean barely surfable by even longboard and still managed to catch a few on my biscuit, all I got to say is this board to me at least, catches like a demon, and when I stand on them, it responds well as long as the surf isn't too small.

But thanks for that! And also mine is a Hot Shot Biscuit, don't know if it makes much difference, but it's a local durban model I think. So a lot cheaper than Al boards...

And I tried again on Longbeach and wasn't bad actually! Still getting used to it, but overall seems really good!
