Best Places to Surf in October (Latin America)

Postby joshjacobson » Tue Aug 10, 2010 3:12 pm

Where's the best place in Latin America/Caribbean/Western Europe to surf in October? (good weather + waves)?

I'm a beginner looking to do a surf camp. Thanks!

Europe: France, Portugal, Spain, water is still not to bad, though you will probably need neoprene & a 3/2mm Full suit.

Latin America: Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, may be too big & it is the rainy season but you can certainly count on some epic surf. Brazil , Santa Catalina is very consistent.

Caribbean: Hurricane season can be very, very good, dangerous in some places if hurrican swell is direct. Puerto Rico is very consistent.

Also look at Morocco.

In October for a beginner of the above listed: Portugal, Morocco & France would be nice choices.

Pacific side of mexico should be pretty decent that time of year, plenty of surf schools all along the coast line. cabo san lucas, mazatlan and peurto vallarta are my favorites, cabo is probably the more beginner friendly and more options to do things if the surf is flat.

it's winter in the southern hemisphere, so if you're looking for good weather, gotto check the northern part.

October is usually a very good time here in the Dominican Republic. First north swells come trough, and no crowds.

PM if you need more info

Yeah Puerto Rico has super consistent surf and warm waters for beginners. One of my buddies who tried surfing down there with his wife went to a camp called the Rincon Surf School and said it was a great learning experience.
