Malibu Lessons?

Postby valentin_84 » Sun Aug 01, 2010 9:33 pm

Hey guys, I'm headed to Malibu next month and was thinkin I wanna give surfing a try. I'm a skater / bmxer/ submission fighter from Phoenix and am moving to Cali next year. Surfing seems to be the next logical sport for me.

Well my question is, I have a friend from Hawaii and he told me to take a couple lessons to get me started but I don't know if it's necessary... It's not cheap and I really don't know where to go or who or what to look for.

My girlfriend found this school online and talked to them about a three lesson deal for both of us for $450. That includes a one and a half to two hour lesson per day on a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Also, boards and wet suits all day rental included in the price. So basically, my girlfriend and I would get 3 lessons and have everything we would need to surf for 3 days for $450.

This is the school's link: http://zsstraining.com

Anyone know of them? Any advice on if this is a good deal or if it's even needed?

Thanks for you time!

Personally, I think that you should try doing 1 lesson first, just to see where you're at. The basics are pretty simple, but execution of the basics requires a lot of practice because you have to execute those basics in a real short window. After you take a lesson, you can decide whether or not you need more lessons. Some people can pick it up quickly, other people need more lessons to iron things out.

I took my lesson with these guys: http://learntosurfla.com/html/index.htm

At the same time if you did want 3 lessons I would say that's a pretty good price for 3 days with rental for two people.
Especially if you get the boards and that all day rather than just for the lesson.

Try to bargain them down anyway!
