Foot problems

Postby MJ1234 » Tue Jun 22, 2010 7:28 pm

Hey,

I just switched to a shortboard a 6'7 quad and i am having problems when i pop up. My feet are always to close together near the back and the board shoots in front of me. How do i fix this problem? thanks

Sounds to me that you just aren't turned to the side.. When you pop up, plant your back foot on the tail, and your front foot up in the middle area of the board (kinda where you are laying prior to the pop-up).. Focus on popping up to a sideways position (not directly up to feet together). If you have to plant a big wide, legs open, "stinkbug" stance to begin with and start learning, so be it.. Do what you can to make sure your back foot is on the tail and your front ends up in the middle-ish of the board. From there... you can start tweaking it and finding your comfort zone. But for now, sounds to me like you need to work on breaking the habit of popping up into a closed stance. :D

Good luck!

For me, it helps to keep my hands on the board as much as I can until my from foot is firmly planted up between near where my palms are. Your back foot should be coming up just a little ways simultaneously to the tail pad. Also keep your chest and head up and look sideways in the direction you want to go (not down or at your board as this will jam your sense of space and will tend to throw you off balance)
