70-ish??? Blimey, which east coast are you on? Thats 21 degrees C!!

More like <60 degrees on the east coast and getting to the warm balmy heights of ~65 in the south west.

THe summer season always makes for a comfortable temperture to surf in. Not too hot not too cold. Changing isn't a chore like it is in the winter.

It does get to 20-21 C on the southern part of the east coast - my mate has got a thermometer on his watch.
The North Sea is a much smaller body of water so the temp fluctuates more because it is influenced by the land masses which surround it more - kind of like ice cubes in a drink in winter and a kettle element in summer. We're in shortys all summer here and occasionally boardies! Its always warmer here than Cornwall in summer.
Actually the Gulf Stream doesn't really affect the south west as its already been up near the Hebrides and has cooled and then comes south past Ireland and so there is not much of it at all going to the south west.
