Airlines and YOU

Postby IDynamite » Tue Jan 05, 2010 9:44 pm

Hey guys,

I'm traveling to Puerto Rico for a few months and need my board with me. I was thinking of maybe sending the board down via UPS but it's way too expensive. What can I expect out of the Airlines as far as charges? I'm flying Continental for those of you in the States.

Anything I should definitely know ahead of time?

Thanks!

You may be surprised with how much the airline will charge you. I won't be surprised if they nearly break your board. Use a hard flight case or pack that sucker very, very well.

One month ago, American Airlines from CA to KS destroyed a brand new, $750, reinforced metal suitcase (that was not overpacked). It was a sin and they looked at us like we were stupid. They wouldn't even give us a roll of tape so the suitcase could be used on the next flight 1.5 hours later which was going overseas.

You should expect to pay upwards of $150 per board each way on your flight. Check out the Da Kine World Traveller bag. Holds up to 4 boards.

Have a great trip.

Thanks for the shouts braahs. Their website says up to two boards is $100 for Continental airs. I have a soft case so I wrapped my baby up tight with bubble wrap. Hoping for the best! Flight is today, I'll let you know how it works out.

Flight went very smoothly! I bubble wrapped one of my boards and fit in some rashguards for extra protection since I had a soft case. Tried to get away with check the boardbag as a normal bag but...they knew. Ran me $100 bucks. Boobs.
