Twitter Surf Reports

Postby SurfCamera » Fri Jan 15, 2010 5:03 pm

What most surfers don't know is that you can tweet your own surf report right from your cell phone by texting it to 40404 (Twitter). Anytime you're tweeting a surf report make sure you use the words "surf report" somewhere/anywhere in your message. Your tweet will show up on someones search for "surf report". Simple!!! This will take over Surflines local surf report by this summer once surfers catch on. LINK REMOVED

not a chance... if i find a nice empty wave working somewhere, last thing i'm going to do is advertise it to the whole world. ruin a perfectly good surf.

You never read a surf report before? So do it when you get out.
Besides if other are tweeting other surf spots maybe they'll all run from your spot.

i do read surf reports, and they tell me what general area might be working... finding a break that's working the best minus crowds requires legwork. nothing strictly against your idea... just can't see it catching on. at least not over here. doubt anyone is going to be interested in finding out if a general area is working.. we already have msw or windguru or surfline and a host of others, most accessible on a mobile phone, and i can't really see surfers giving away lesser known spots on twitter.

can only be a bad thing IMHO

You know, SurfCamera, there is something about your suggestion that makes me think you're most interested in receiving benefit from more people using Twitter than promoting surfing. You can bet your life that I won't tweet any surfing reports.

By the way, do you even surf?

Woaaah dudes, chill, its just a suggestion put out there, if you dont want to use it then don't, it could be good if you want to tell others about the best surf around but, as with most of you I wont be using it.

if your beach works every day then why would any one need to check twitter to see if it's working.

just kidding.... but seriously, you wanted feedback... looks like you got it. like your thinking but just don't think its a good idea. top marks for effort tho.

If you read someones tweets on a spot and you're familiar with the whole area, you can shorten your time looking around when your spot isn't working and go around the corner from the spot that was tweeted. Besides, I firmly don't believe surf report tweeting is going to crowed a spot. I tweet Mission Beach all the time and there's 3 miles of sand bars. The surf here isn't anymore crowded from it and there's a lot of traffic on our website reading it.
