My first winter on the north coast of ireland i survived with a 3/2 and a thermal rash vest with hood, but you'll do well to surf for more than an hour maybe 2. I think i have pretty good circulation/ blubber though and seem to be ok when others are cold.

If you had a thermal vest booties gloves and hood now is not unbearable but by early feb- early april it'll be definately too cold.

I had a 5/3 on the other day with 5mm boots & gloves, and a 3mm hood.
And I was warm & toasty everywhere apart from head, but I've tried 5mm hoods before and still get just as cold on my head. Probably because cold water always getting flushed in when duck divin or wiping out!
The water was 9 degress, but the air temerature was 1 degree!!! (celcius)
