Easter surfing assistance!

Postby LadyAsh » Mon Dec 28, 2009 1:11 am

Right - I'm not going to have a lot of fun this year because I'm doing a Masters, and holidays are pretty much going to be taken up with essays and dissertations!

I've allowed myself a week off over Easter to go away.
Criteria: nice and warm, sunny, stuff to do, good surfing. Access to other things like scuba diving, jet skis etc.

I've been surfing for a few years now, but haven't done it abroad since I learnt. My brother is coming with me & he wants to give it a go. He's a strong swimmer (trained lifeguard!) and very confident and able when it comes to sports - he picks things up very quickly. Obviously I will want something above beginner's level.

Current suggestions:
-Tenerife
-Somewhere round Greece
-Fuertaventura
-??

Suggestions? :)

If you can do all the above in one week a Masters will be easy peasy !

Lady Ash,
Florida has a very long coast line. Hopefully, you will be going to the Atlantic ocean side. If toward the north, you can find reasonable longboard surf at the pier at Coco Beach. I usually surf there when I visit my mother in Orlando. You'll find the water warm and gentle. There are also two large surf shops within easy walking distance of this surf break that you can rent board and wetsuit. I got so used to surfing in cold water in Norhtern California that I rarely use a wetsuit at Coco Beach - even in the winter. The names of the shops are Ron Jons and Coco Beach Surf Company.

Your brother would do well with the swell beside the pier at Coco Beach.
