surfboard for an intermediate surfer - surfing not regulary

Postby gerkiwisurfer » Wed Dec 23, 2009 3:18 pm

hi !
i come from germany so please just ask if you don t know what i want to say

i am thinking about buying a surfboard soon and i don t really know which one to choose ..

but first of all here is some infromation about me:
i did surfing in nz for 2 months like twice a week .. mainly on 7.3 bics
i went surfing summer 2009 for two weeks in france on 7.3 bics and 6.8 nsp - towards the end of the trip i got quite used to the last one and it worked out quite good
i am 175cm which is about 5,7ft and 68kg which equals 150 lb
i do some skateboarding here

cause i am living in the middle of germany there isn t any beach close to where i live and i ll be only surfing one or tow weeks and maybe a weekend each year (probably in france and maybe the weekende in the north of germany)
i don t want to buy a 7f or higher cause they just not really handy and i'd like to go for a smaller one

which size would you suggest? is 6.4 still alright or better 6.6?
rather fish or shortboard? i ve heard that fish is better for smaller waves - is it possible to go for 2-3m waves with a fish too?
i actually considered that fish: http://www.newsurfproject.com/index.php?cccpage=fish64
i appreciate all hints and tipps =)

Is there a reason why you want to go NSP or bic? They are very durable, and if that is why then so be it.

But for a fish that size there are other companies who's shape will perform much better than an NSP. Here is my choice

Also, if you don't surf often you might consider bigger than a 6'4" since it will be easier and have more fun
