Leash problems! :x

Postby johnboy530 » Thu Oct 15, 2009 9:59 pm

Just wondered if any of you are having or have had the same problem as me.....my leash keeps getting tangled around the opposite leg! i have a 9'6" firewire squash tail at the mo with a 9' knee leash as i come off the wave and try and get back to my feet the leash is wrapped around both legs and restricting my movement. Its hassling me as i feel like im constantly untangling myself from it, anyone know any products that stop this or is there something i can do myself to improve this? ive tried shorter leashes and these seem to be the same.
grateful for your suggestions guys ....

do u wrap the leash around the board between surfs? Dont do it...you're increasing the chance of a tangle. Other than that I cant help.

Switch to a board under 6'4" and to a 6' leash. That should do the trick!

i read recently, somewhere, about a type of rubber weight that slides on the leg rope and as its weighted it keeps it 'down' and away from your legs. Seems like it would work and stop tangles. I can't remember where it was sold. it was in an ozzie surf magazine.

The XM tangle free leash has a little weight that slides up and down to make the leash drag and so not tangle. Not sure how good an idea it is though, could see it damaging the board if you accidentally lay on it or got nailed by a big wave etc. something.

Take your leash off the board then let it sit in the sun to warm up. Attach the velcro side to something like a fence post or hand rail. Then just pull back on it with some weight for a minute. Repeat 2 or 3 times. Have a camcorder rolling just in case you go flying!

Dont keep the leash coiled up, lay it out on your dresser or floor.

What happens it the leash is going back to the coiled up state in the water!

I always have this problem, i've recently changed my leash which improved things but still tangles. good idea with warming it up and stretching it out, i'll give that a go. don't like the idea of a leash weight, sounds like a gimmick.

The XM tangle free leash is no gimmick, it is the best leash on the market. XM makes a great leash and the slider to prevent tangles flat ot works. Take the guess work out of it and try before you judge it!
