Why can I surf, but not skate?

Postby Beachbum » Mon Dec 14, 2009 6:30 am

I'm able to surf way better than when I'm long boarding around my house. I thought surfing and skating comes hand in hand, but not for me. I haven't surfed for about 3 weeks, so I'm thinking about practicing on my long board. I'm trying to improve my bottom turns, will skating help me through this problem?

It's probably because all your furniture gets in your way. Try long boarding outside in the street, I think your see a marked improvement in your performance.

^ Hahaha I meant around my neighborhood, not literally around my house. Should I loosen my trucks more? They're fairly loose at the moment, but I'm worried that I'll eat sh** going down some of the hills near my home.

Yeah I mainly want to improve my bottom turns along with turning in general. While I watch the pros, it seems they're effectively using all their power into their turns, in a controlled manner, and that's what I want to do.

I think with the flex deck or fiber rap boards you get more power and drive out of your turns or (bottom turns) when skating. More like surfing to me anyway because of the give in the board. Go into your turn (bent knees) as you reaching the end of the turn extend your legs then bring your legs back under you as you pull out of the turn back to bent again. does that make any sense? :unuts: Try pumping the board like slalom to keep generating speed, Then just do the same in a larger scale. That's the best I can type it LOL!!!!

Thanks for the input guys. I gotta find a bowl around here to skate in. I think that will resemble a wave the best.

Just loosen your trucks enough so you can get good smooth turns in without getting wheel bite so you don't eat Sh*t. Then find a good hill that is not that steep just kinda sloping and carve back and fourth down the hill. That's how I work on my bottom turns.
