Tiki Sumo Fish any good?

Postby Jimma » Sat Oct 24, 2009 8:00 pm

Hi All,

Please can someone help - I am confused...

I'm riding an 8 foot mini-mal and looking for a smaller/faster board now I am improving. I wanted a Tiki Sumo fish but some people haev told me these "import" boards are not as good as UK produced (eg Black & White etc). I was told they will not last that long but then someone else told me the Tiki's have thicker glassing and are much stronger/long lasting? Who is right?!?!?!

Please help - am desperate for a new board for winter!

I'm in the same boat with another board (see thread above) and seeing as nobody's answered I'm gonna go look at the board and chat to the guys in the surf shop later!

If you decide you want a Sumo Fish there's one for sale in Braunton North Devon for good money!

I haven't seen this particular board but do when ever i'm in braunton check out the quality of the boards in the shops (finish, glass quality etc). Tiki boards rate lowly. Visible lap lines, air bubbles in the laps and just not finished off as well as they should be. Even to the point on one board i spotted that some masking tape for a pin line had obviously been forgotten and had been left on and glassed over. This wouldn't necessarily effect how the board surfed but in my opinion it shows a lack of care and attention to detail.
When i pointed it out to the sales assistant he told me that was how it was meant to be!
How i laughed as i left the shop. :blah:

haha lol how did they miss masking tape lol. i agree looked at tiki boards before and did not like the look of them and they are no cheaper than going to get a board made from a sharper.
