New board for the quiver - Fish Stick!

Postby IB_Surfer » Mon Sep 14, 2009 4:54 am

Awesome deal, wasn't looking to buy a board but here this one showed up. My shaper made it for someone else but the color was not correct, so he touched it up, pinlined it and glossed it then sold it to me for almost half off!!! Awesome deal, awesome board. Had been looking to get one this size as a quad later, maybe next summer, so I guess I kinda lucked out early...

Mmmmm, that looks nice :)
Is it epoxy? Or simply a paintjob over the stringer?
Leash plug seems to be in a slightly odd position - seems to be between the rear fins?

It's fiberglass. It's a paint job on top and a resin tint on the bottom. The tint was not perfect on top so he painted over it and then glossed the board.

The leash plug seemed odd to me too, my other fishes have them offset and further back. I don't put stomp pads on my retro's and because it's a big fish I normally ride it rail to rail and farther up, so it really isn't in the way at all.

Update: I dig the glide and love the performance. It for sure isn't a thurster but it has uber glide like a funboard. Tried it in punchy shore break (by mistake) last week and I was actually able to drop in to my suprise, thought it would not hold, the quad makes a big difference. Today I got to use it in waist high perfect mush peelers and it was like longboarding on a small board, super fun.

My bank balance is about to take a knock as my brain has started to think quad fish-like thoughts. Much like your one in fact. A bit of summer mush surfing :)

Nice board, how wide is that tail? Reminds me of a 7 superfish a little...

Sorry, I don't think he spec'd it out, he doesn't machine cut and he didn't make it specific to any measurement so no tail or nose dim's available. Sorry

Also, the 7s are tapered towards the rail, more performance, this one is thick to the rails, more speed and glide

Nice board - I think the quad fish is indeed the way of the future for small waves. I just bought one (closer in shape to the CI Pod) and it seems very very fast with surprising hold - but I have yet to test it properly..We've had reasonably sized waves the past few days so I've been using the shortboard.
Enjoy!

Jimi: I actually want to take it to baja to a point break where it breaks huge but not steep, have another fish I surfed there and loved it, want to give it a whirl now that the NW swell is showing some.

Naniesko: Mostly, I surf it like a longboard, rail to rail, so I do my stance a little farther forward anway, so in essence all I do is lean forward when slowing down. But yeah, I've actually had my feet at the nose (not over it) to noseride it on small surf LOL
