First Board For Daughter Roger Cooper v NSP

Postby divadee » Sun Oct 04, 2009 5:46 pm

My daughter is 11 about 5'4 and weighs about 5 stone. she surfs about once a week at surf juniors but wants to surf more after school so her own board is now a must.

we have been offered a used (twice by best friends stepmum who we trust implicitly) NSP betty 7'6 board with bag, leash etc.. for £170

or we have also been offered a brand new minimal roger cooper board for £245

we honestly dont know which to get for her.

she is popping up although definetly not every time, she cant turn yet either. which would be the best one to go for? we need to decide asap as friends stepmum is going to sell the nsp elsewhere but it is holding it for us until we decide.

the only thing is putting me off the roger cooper custom is incase she dings it. the nsp's i hear are very hardy and resiliant to dings.

oh god why does this decision have to be so hard

many thanks in advance for your help.

hmm i dont have a lot of experiance as an 11 year old gir lol, but as a surfer... i once swapped boards for a few rides with one of these NSPs.....i found it to be horrificaly unstable, the girl who i swapped with now rides a differant board and says she cant believe she kept persuing the sport with all the falling off and nose diving she did,

the surf bettys tough for sure but in the right hand and adult supervision...the art of ding repair can become part OF the activity...as it is in my life!! similar to the lessons learnt by having a rabbit to feed or a dog to walk, repairing a ding with your help(cos there are resins and such involved) could be used as a lesson, both on taking care and on the craftmanship of building the items we use.

maybe thats just me, but if i was young again , i think i would be very inspired by someone showing me that kind of stuff, like when my dad let me throw strips of calcium carbomate in water !!! ta dad!!
