North East Surfing...(this weekend)

Postby chris... » Mon Sep 28, 2009 10:26 pm

Going to be up in Yorkshire this weekend. Never surfed the east coast before.

It always seemed cold and flat in my (admittedly slightly confused and probably ignorant mind)

a) Where is a nice forgiving place to surf (my favourite beaches are saunton sands and sennen)

b) Is there going to be any swell this weekend?

Still pretty balmy up here so still summer suit no boots or gloves

a) Depends where you are in yorkshire. Scarborough area if you like a mellow wave like saunton south bay or filey for a few foot smaller than the main beaches.

b) Yes and should be big enough to get round into the east facing breaks above.

Surfed at Cayton Bay last Wednesday, it was good. I mean I ate it for the first hour at the pumphouse...when it does that closeout dumping thing, but looked perfect from the top. When the tide changed it was 3-4ft on the sets and I made it on my 7'6 Carpet for some of the best rides I have ever had (glad I never gave up after the first hour or so)! Had to take off way quicker than I'm used to, or surfed in for a long time. Got back in in the arvo and spent a good 3 hours between Bunkers and the main break. Got pretty big lol! Had a few 'brown wetsuit' moments!
Going back this friday night/saturday morning, I love the North East :)
