Was I in the wrong ?

well ive surfed for sometime now
but theres this one session that i keep questioning if i was in the right or wrong
it was one of those crowdy days at a beach break
where you have to paddle straight to the line up or risk ruining someones ride
so i was paddling to the line up
and as someone was paddling for their wave
i saw that their board was pointing to the wave face that was infront of me
so i paddled to the opposite wave face and didnt interupt them what so ever
but the guy screamed at me and told me to not paddle infront of him
was i in the wrong ?

so i went a diagonal heading to my left

(heading to the right wave face)
(if you were playing a video game you would press left and up button )

which of course would put me perpendicular of the wave face compared to his position but since he was riding a long board i was thinking he didnt need to go completely straight

was i wrong =/ ?

If you have to ask you probably where. if you do it once it's a mistake, just apologize and don't let it eat at you, and try to learn from your mistakes.

hmmm i guess so oh well =)
at least his ride wasnt ruined =O
it wasnt really eating at me
but since i didnt know if it was a mistake
i wasnt sure of what to do when the event happened again

people don't like it when you paddle infront of them. i dont like it. so give them a little bit of space when they are paddleing. also you shouldn't be paddling so much before the wave. just see if they are gona catch it and if not flip-a-bitch haha and catch the wve
