New Beater Board

Postby IB_Surfer » Tue Aug 11, 2009 4:37 am

I went to order a new board at Addict Surfboards last week and started talking to my shaper. I was looking for a beater board to lend to my friends that don't surf. He had an old carbon fiber longboardthat looked butt ugly, needed to have the plug put in and needed an O-ring for the plug and was covered in grime, so he let me have it for cheap if I did all the end work.

So, some TLC, a couple of trips to home depot, about 5 coats of green fluorescent paint on the nose and it was ready. Then I did an old-timers trick: I put about 2 bars of wax on it (and like they do I'll just claim I like a lot of grip lol) and it looks almost, well, rideable.

I don't need the board, but I can already tell my friends will be the better for it, I'll teach them to surf and won't mind if they bang it up some, the board should last forever. I totally dig that I got it for cheap and it will be super durable.

Thanks Micah (shaper/owner, addict surfboards) http://www.surfingsd.com/ad_spots/board ... rdroom.htm

And no, this is not spam or do I work for them, just thought it was a cool hook up. Here is a pic of the new beater:

neato - thats how i got to like riding quads my shaper had an epoxy one lying about that was a little bit worn so i fixed it up and ended up loving the feel of it. Although i have a brand new epoxy battail quad now i still like to keep the other one handy. Its a real real pluss to have boards hanging around - very usefull for people who just drop by or even better for woman you convince to try out surfing :-)

HELP: I've taken it out twice and both times the plug leaked water. I tried replacing the O-ring with a thicker one and even tightening it with needlenose plyers (gently) but it still leaks?

Anyone have experience with hollow boards leaking at the plug and how to resolve it? I was thinking of a flat washer next but maybe someone has a better "trick"
