DIY Board Rack

Postby Rudyland » Tue Sep 01, 2009 9:22 pm

I just bought a condo close to the beach, and the garage has plenty of space for me to build a proper rack (as opposed to just leaning my boards against the wall :( ). There is a sturdy wood beam running the length of the wall, probably between 4-5 feet off the ground. I'd like to attach "arms" to this beam to hold the boards upright, and have seen some examples of this done with PVC, but I'm not clear how the PVC is attached to the wood. Has anyone built a rack like this? Or know of a tutorial?

I have searched online, but was only able to find horizontal rack tutorials. I want my boards vertical (see attachment).

Thanks!

When are you having your flat warming? I assume we're all invited!?!

In answer to your question the one I made was out of drift wood. I think you'd need some type of fastener which screws onto into the wood and glues or bolts through the PVC.

Ive heard that you should always store your board horizontally (sp?) rather than vertically. Something about resin sliding or something? Anyone know anything about this?

Unlike the photo, I'm actually going to build an "arm" to prevent the boards from falling sideways. Is this what you mean?

I have also seen people using bungee cords to prevent boards from falling.
