when people cut in front of you!

Postby sami » Sat Aug 01, 2009 8:25 pm

just wanted to get everyone ones opinion on that one subject..
when people cut in front of your waves or in front of you so you have to duck out..
where i surf it seems to be a day to day thing that people tend to do... im get sick of it..
i would say you make it that the swimmers and beginning surfers say to one side..
as a surfer i think we all share the same stress haha...

collitions in crowded conditions particular sumer when there are a lot of beginers out is increased. Whenever i paddle out i try to find the least crowded spot and always watch the surfers taking off so if i need to make a big duck dive iam prepared. Even experienced surfers can accidently run someone over its just a fact of surfing in crowded situations deal with it

True. There are groups here that are paving the way to respecting the lineup. In local spots I hardly see people dropping in on each other, which is good. Wait your turn, respect the ocean, respect the line up. When this code is broken, things get violent.

Don't forget about spongers! One or two bodyborders (we're not talking guys who actually can bodyboard and we wonder why they never surfed) can ruin my entire day. Always sitting at the breakpoint or just snaking in front of me for a wave... spongers = speedbumps 9 times out of 10.

on one of the biggest waves on my last couple of days I almost ran over some guy with a longboard. the wave was about to break and i was right on top droped in lost my footing gained it back and i saw him right in front of me, i turned he went under then the wave crashed(my waves always end shortly lol).

He turned around and yelled "What the ^@# man! You almost ran me over!". I swam up to him and calmly said , "Don't you EVER assume i'll sacrifice my wave for your health. And went to paddle out. about a minute later, i saw him completly cut off a experianced local.

What you CAN DO is do the magic fingers, motion your fingers like you do when your flicking water at something or to dry off, the magic flows out and knocks people off :D

Or just sit back and wait till they cut the wrong person off and they go complete AGRO on them and make them regret their life. It's all about knowing your break and knowing the local hierarchy in place.... take care of your own and F to tourist! :)

The mostly fictional testosterone in this thread is becoming a bit tedious

The worst ones are what I call "virtual surfers" like to look cool with there custom made boards, never catch a wave but sit right infront of the line up.

or kooks to the rest of us.

as for people getting in the way while they are paddling out, deal with it. sometimes there is simply nowhere to go. it happened to me yesterday. it wasnt a begginner at all but an experienced surfer who ive seen at the spot in question a lot. it caused me not to make the first section. no need to get aggro though. the guy apologised as i paddled back out.

it can be a a little annoying but in crowded conditions its inevitable.

Key part there is that the other guy apologized. Its like when someone cuts you off when driving.. that little "wave" of apology goes a long way of settling our "testosterone" issues.

dropping in is currently a big problem at Bournemouth pier...and the guys doing it have no idea what they have done. The British are way too polite most of the time...so even after they have p*ssed someone off they are not told. A friendly or not so friendly word or two would really help these guys learn the 'rules' of the waves....guys just need to talk a little more out there...
