Board repair question

Postby Wonjun » Sun Aug 02, 2009 3:56 am

Hi guys,

I having bit of trouble fixing up my board.

I have bumped my board on the street and it cracked little.

I thought it was water-tight but when i put the board under the sun, water was coming out from the crack (with little bubling sound).

My question is, how do you know when the board is fully dry so i can put resin on to seal it?? i have been putting the board out under the sun to dry for 2 days and it's still damp when i touch it.

Also, is there anyway to make it dry faster other than just drying under the sun?? e.g use a lighter?

Cheers

I'm not expert, but here's what I've learned:

You could use a gentle vacuum pump. Also, air flow over the area is important so that the evaporate has somewhere to go once it leaves the board, so more water can evaporate. It takes time. You can also use paper towels to wick the moisture out of the hole, if it's large enough.

Any experts in the house?

put a lightbulb over the ding, this will ensure that the air around it isn't humid. press around the area of the ding, if water is coming out, it still needs to be dried. a suck test will also work, put ur lips around it and pretend its megan fox and suck. if you taste salt water then its still saturated and needs to be dried. the more humid the air the longer the drying process. One way to truly tell is to put the surfboard in teh sun for at least an hour. its now hot and is probably still leakn water. Go ahead and seal the area except for a small spot to leave empty. usually air bubbles will come out meannig that the pressure in the board is causing the water to be pushed out. this last test is only for if you are not sure all the water is out. So if your like me who has waited a week because its crap and i have amazing patience the last test i do just to make sure. if yo let water in and seal it will cause delamination, meaning the protective layr comes off like a used ____
