Twin fin or quad fish

Think the answer will be "try both".....but I'd be interested to hear experiences of others in the meantime. I'm thinking sometime in the future that I'd like to try a fish surfboard when my ability has improved a bit. I'm wondering out of a twinnie or quad, which would be a better step up for an improver/intermediate surfer and do the boards ride quite differently? If both boards were the same but the fin set up the only difference, would a twinnie be harder to get to grips with? I'd need quite a big fish to start from as I'm 6ft and 13.5-14 stone (usually!).

i am in the same boat pretty much the same weight (90kg) and same ability and even height (6'3) and i am looking to get a twin fin or a quad fish for my next board to start my quiver, when i get some cash and would like to know how they differ.

From reading on the net is it the quads have more drive and can semi handle steep waves and are just as good at catching waves?

Obviously it depends on the type of fish how it will ride and the suitability of quad vs twin. From my own experiences im a big fan of quad set-ups but i really did not like the retro twinnies my quad fish was so much better for me then again its not a retro persay so its not really comparable.

honestly dude, get the quad. quads build natural speed making it more fun and easier so you don't have to pump the board as much. Also you can take out the two front fins on a quad and now you have a twin! TADA TRANSFORMATION! let me relate to you what the difference is.

Quads build natural speed. Its like a faster car, a Porsche.
Twins are more loose. Its like driving a car with two bald tires on the back, you are sliding everywhere!

I use a tri fin fish but i took out the stabalizer so its a twin. Basicaly i can fly all over a wave because of the loosenes, so it looks like i know what im doing. But if i were to go back I would get a quad.

Quads are nice cause of the speed, you can do alot more with them then you could with twin fins. twins don't provide much thrust at the bottom of the wave so you can't( i know some people can) do arials very well or what sort. Just get a quad and if you dont like it take off two fins lol.

NO offense but some people say quads helps surfers think they are better. which means you don't have to work as hard to build speed, so your wave riding experiance will be guided alittle more toward user friendly, which is why i would love to get one.

Its all preference really. If you been surfing a bit, you will notice the difference right alway, so you sorta need to give both a try to see what you like. Ive owned 2 quad fish boards and 1 twin fish and I would choose the twin anyday over the quad. The quads all felt to stiff for my liking. The twin was ridiculous on speed dropping into the face, which can make it difficult on steep waves, but if you tame the beast on a big set theres nothing like it. Hit a nice line and hold on. When I first got it I had a bit of trouble with it, but once I got used to it, its a crazy rollercoaster ride and i love it. Ive also tried a different keels for it. The CI Keel template by lokbox was night and day from the previous Pavel Keel Haulers I was running on it. I have friends that swear by their quads, so its all just the flavor you prefer.

Reckon a twinnie sounds the one for me but my skill levels ain;t anywhere near ready...something to work on though.

iv got a retro twin and i love it, its soo fast and i mean fast lol carries alot of speed through flat sections whilst catching waves so early. only trouble i have had on it is catching steep/powerful waves due to no much rocker you will pearl quickly its a blast tho, my main board at the moment. its 6ft x 20 3/4 x 2 1/2
