First Time Out

Postby LongBeach19 » Fri Jul 24, 2009 2:25 pm

Hey all - wanted to get a few tips for a first time surfer...

I just turned 27, I live in Long Beach, NY.... in excellent shape, great swimmer, and have been snowboarding for 15 years - and bodyboarded as a kid growing up in Myrtle Beach alot.

But for whatever reason...I never got on a surfboard. Finally decided to give it a go, and my friend (who is really good) is taking me otu on his extra longboard tonight - I'm obviously expecting alot of immediate failure but I wanted to see if anyone had some good basic pointers regarding ANYTHING...

I appreciate the feedback always..

Chin up!

I mean that literaly, keep your head up looking forwards, all the time (unles your turning!). arch your back.

Focus on getting in the right place on the board so it planes properly, then on smothe strong paddling, everything else has to come from that.
