Surfed a 5'6"

Postby Young blood » Thu Jul 09, 2009 3:16 am

Hey fellas i tried my friend's board which is a 5'6" , 2.13 inch thick 19 inch wide.... its a Stretch ratboy and its one of the most amazing small wave boards ive ever been on :D , the swell has been small ish recently with some 4-5 foot inbetween and the board handled all of it well...i just couldnt believe it...its surfs like a skateboard or something lol, it slides everywhere but its possible to surf it straight and direct aswell...i was doing more powerful turns with it and i figured i wanna get one :D:D

Have any of you fellas used a small wave board that contained unimagionable speed on flat spots and smaller waves...if so let me know cause i definitely need a small wave board in my quiver..i think im definitely set on the ratboy but im not sure.

Just got myself a 5'10" Rust Toad looking board. I currently have it set up as a thruster but I will be having 2 more boxes dropped in to make it a quad as well. Board is a lot of fun in 2'+ surf and has been pretty easy to get up and running down the line. I have also come to love how much I can throw the thing around. A lot of fun.

my retro fish quad is like that. 5'6" and fun in smaller stuff. especially when it's blowing a bit onshore and mushy. it does well in pretty much anything of size when it's that mushburger stuff too. very quick, skatey, and all the qualities of the retro fish. rail to rail transitions are kind of funky though because of the flat bottom and width, but that is to be expected. definitely a fun board to have, but wouldn't want it as my only board

im about to glass an experimental board i made dims are 5'2 x 20 1/2 x i think 2 3/8 but not sure. Its a swallow tail but not really a full on one more like a bady swallow. Rails are beefier in the nose and mid section but slowly taper off towards the tail. Im gonna make my own fins and do it a tri fin. Should be real interesting. Not even sure i can ride the dam thing properly just hoping the extra beef will allow me to rip it. Even so its a whole 8 inches shorter than my smallest shortboard which is a 6'0 and im exactly 6ft @ 145lb lol. fortunatly its not a costly experiment if it sucks as im only gonna be spending about $70 on the whole deal.

Well if it doesn't work out for you, you can always stoke out one of your neighborhood kids
Sounds interesting though.
Ride report?
