Need some help, trying to learn on a short board

Postby HJ236 » Fri Apr 17, 2009 3:43 am

Okay, so I know that you are supposed* to learn on the longboard first. But I've decided since I have this shortboard or fish dunno what is it. Kinda new to surfing. Its the board 2nd to last on the right.

I live in San Clemente, and I've been out twice since I've got my board. The first day no one was out lol, but I practiced my paddling.

Today I went out again, no one out there again. 7:00am too early for surfing?
But I went out again at around 6:30 and I surfed next to like 3 other surfers.

Whats the best way to learn on a shortboard?

:D,

Got it thanks, would you practice next to other surfers?

Or would I just be getting in the way?

Lol, I'm reading this from almost 3 months ago. Its crazy..

I've come a longggggggg way. since then.

I'm so glad I stayed persistent.

No I can basically catch every wave and ride it.

No fancy cutbacks and allie oops yet,

But working on my bottom turn.

Some tips,

1.) Paddling- (This is one of the most important things you have to get right*) I have a book by Taj Burrow and it has some great tips.

2.) Persistence

3.) Practice

4.) Patience.

The 3 P's :)

Good luck too all those newcomers.

I still have a ways to go.
