what kind of board?

Hi!
I've been surfing with an evolutive shortboard (a 6'6") for a while and I wanted to take a step further in my surfing and buy a new board, a shorter board so I could surf better and learn more. I was thinking about buying a lost rocket which would be very good for the places i surf (northern spain and france). But then I've read in an interview with Matt Biolos that he shapes very conservative boards for the groms, wider and flatter than usual and with little rocker, so that they learn to surf in a more "mature" way, using their weight to turn. So... what do you think? Should I go for a more conservative board than the lost rocket?

If you're riding a 6,6 fine now I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to ride the lost rocket. So I say go for the rocket.

I'm a heavy surfer, so I order my boards with less rocker to glide more and catch waves easier, but I do give up some performance. If you are not a good surfer yet then less rocker and a wider board might be a good idea, but don't over do it. Post up your height and weight and maybe others can suggest a good size for you

i'm 5'10" and i weight 135 pounds. What size would you suggest?

Since i'm quite thin for my height, I think I'd be better on a board a bit thinner than usual but still long and wide enough since my gravity center is high enough, instead of going for a smaller board with standard lenght x width x thickness.. what do you suggest?

at the moment i like surfing shorter boards wider and thicker, seems with shortboards a lot of the length volume isn't used (in the top end of the nose) to help with paddling too much where if you get a wider nose with etc (kinda like slaters new boards) the volume is used much more effectively, so i'd try a few boards out and see what you prefer.

At your weight almost anything will do.

Just looked at the specs for the lost rocket, seems like a great choice, it's like a mix of a shortboard and a fish. I'd say go at least 6'0 to 6'1 tho, since you are transitioning, but you might be able to go down to a lower size later.

I want to buy a shortboard for surfing steep waves with lots of punch (and usually an on-shore wind). I am 5'7 and weigh around 65kg. I have been surfing a Minimal 7'6 up until now and find it works well on smaller, fatter waves but on the big days it is a disaster! ..or at least I am a disaster on it! I tried out a 6'10 Fatboy Flyer the other day and I got on really well on it. So I am wondering would this be the board for me, or has anyone other suggestions that might help? Bearing in mind that I am a new-comer to the sport of surfing but a keen and quick learner...

If the 6'10" worked for you and you are comfortable on it then get that for your next step down board.

Alex - You might also want to take a look at the Rusty Toad. I am 5'10" and 180lbs and I got the 5'10" Toad, loads of fun, quick , manuverable. Can toss it around like no other board I have been on.
