Getting a surfboard to/from the airport

Postby vez » Mon Jun 15, 2009 12:56 pm

Hi,

I'm off to Ericeira in Portugal for a week in september (flying to Lisbon). I would like to take my own board but am a bit unsure about how easy it'll be to get it to and from the airport. We're not renting a car so I think the only options are gonna be a bus or taxi. My board is 6'7". I also have a 7'6" board which I wasn't going to take but my friend now wants to borrow (she's meeting us there and wants me to take it for her!). Could I fit two boards in a taxi (along with some people)?

If anyone has done this or something similar before and could share any experience/advice I would be very grateful!

Cheers

hey mate. i take my soft-rack with me. http://store.magicseaweed.com/Ocean-Earth-Rap-Rax/Item/102/
it basically wraps around the roof of any car and allows you to transport up to around 6 boards on the roof. stows nicely in a suitcase too ;)
You need to check with the airline to make sure they will allow you to take 2 boards on the plane... if they say only 1 board, then get a bag that holds two boards and ure sorted ;)
Peace

Check out the Curve range of racks at MSW or Surfsurfsurf - the Curve Lockdown is the business, and the travel racks do the same but without the padding, so they are ideal for international travel if you want to keep the excess baggage fees down!
