Female only surf lessons?

Postby Fizzz » Thu Jun 04, 2009 9:09 am

Hi all, my first visit here.
My friend and I would like to learn to surf this summer, and i'm currently thinking about where to book a holiday to do some sort of intensive course (if there is there such a thing?)

Probably would like to go to south wales, devon or cornwall - im open to suggestions. Basically I'm wondering if anyone runs any girls only surf schools? Dont get me wrong, im not anti-men or anything (far from it hehe), i just think it might be fun in an all female environment. Hope im not going to get flamed and shouted at for asking this!

Any suggestions of where to start looking?

I am not female, but would gladly offer my services to teach an all girl class! :D

No, seriously I don't know of any schools that do all female groups, but you will be surprised how many girls there are in most of the schools. I have definitely seen female instructors too.

There are loads of schools about, Newquay in Cornwall probably has the most choice, both in terms of schools and beaches. Some of them do private lessons, but it will be more expensive.

some sort of intensive course

All surfing is intensive, you will be more tired than you have ever been, but you'll also be stoked as hell!!

There's a lot of good advice on this forum too. I've never been to a surf school, I taught myself. Just remember it's all about FUN, nothing else.

The only one I know of is run out of San Diego that's specializes in teaching women how to surf, but they do have a book out...Google Surf Diva... they run a camp out of costa rica, they may know someone in the UK that does something similar to what they do.

I can vouch for cornwall. I have only surfed in Newquay, but every time I have been therea and done a group lesson it has been more or less 50/50, maybe leaning slightly towards more guys.

Sinistapenguin is right about surfing taking it out of you. I usually go down to cornwall during school breaks in the summer, surf in the morning revise for exams in the afternoon or the other way around depending on conditions. The first time I tried doing the surf in the morning thing, I got out of the water to head back and felt full of energy because it was a great session. When I went back to my room I passed out on the bed until 8pm

Hope you have fun

There's a school here in San Diego that started out teaching only girls.

Check out: http://www.surfdivas.com

I've heard that it's one of the best

........I just reread your post and realized that you might have to plan a trip to the US to go to this surf school :D
