Glossy what? Boards?
If so , glossy boards usually have an extra layer of resin on the outside (they're heavier as a result) or possibly polished to a higher/smoother surface by the glasser/finisher. Some percieve they last longer and are more watertight? They do look nicer.

Downside? Gloss boards are slipperier....without wax on a rail (for example) you'll have almost no grip when wet- grabbing to duck-dive for example. The more common pro finish board has some inherent grip wherever you grab it. I have both finishes. Gloss looks better but pro-finish is cheaper to buy (less finishing work required). Your call....

local surf shop dude said that gloss is not worth it. they also charge extra for repairs as it means that they have re-gloss the board after they repair dings or cracks..
