Anyone like rockclimbing?

Postby Ayshah D Pearson » Tue May 19, 2009 3:38 am

I'm just wondering, as this is kind of a sporty forum and I totally love rockclimbing! Haven't been in absolutely ages tho :/

Been busy, work - doesn't let you outdoors very much, neither with part-time study.

But on the rare occasions I have been able to go - thumbs up everytime.

What are you thoughts on this activity?

Do you find it dangerous or challenging?

Used to climb a lot when younger (at uni and after)
Even had a stab at the Old Man of Hoy in the Orkneys.
But now . . rocks are evil, they break you and your board :(

I too used to climb but stopped after I damaged my shoulder snowboarding and have never got back into it. I don't really hang around in the circles of climbers I used to.

But yeah, great fun!

if you can't find the time outside work to do the things you like make them your work.

i climb trees for a living. pretty much the same thing. same gear techniques etc. slightly thicker rope tho 13-14mm. wouldn't often climb to the same heights as advanced rock climbers, but add a chainsaw into the mix and there is huge adrenaline potential. been in a few hairy situations, moreso when I started but the unexpected still happens from time to time and often requires some quick thinking.

have done some rock climbing but now when i finish work the last thing i want to see is another rope and harness!

Having a go next week at an indoor clip & climb for the first time, should be fun!

If it's the place in Chch, it's a real good laugh - try doing the jump from one post to another - real scary!

I used to climb alot. Not done much for a few years now, so I guess I'd be a little stiff (in fact I know I completely lack the neccessary subtlness to climb hard and well). But I used to enjoy it alot. What was quite a laugh was that I went to Warwick University and had an indoor wall which I used to visit and boulder round every evening on the way home from work. At this time I was tecnically quite good but the harder leads were when I was not so technically advanced. Both climbing and surfing I wish that I'd taken up at a younger age, I started climbing in my late twenties and surfing only a few years ago. I have to be content now with achieveing mediocrity in both because its definitely the case that taking things up when your older makes it more difficult to become really good. Anyway thats what I think!

I use to climb almost on a daily basis around Western Australia. Mainly stuck to traditional crack climbing when I could otherwise multipitch sea cliffs are the go. Hardly ever climbed indoors because well, indoors is just too easy and way too boring.
There's some absolutely awesome climbing around WA.
