shortboard [6'3] with super fish fins?

Postby LegendByDay » Sat Apr 18, 2009 7:39 am

I ride a Spider GW407, 6'3, 18, 2 1/4 shortboard.

I have read some bad reviews on Spider board on this site and I must say you guys have the wrong impression on Spider boards.
the are sick, super fast and good fun to ride, easy to handle!

No this is the true reason for my post.**********

I got some super fish FINS, they are FCS MR. TFX, 2x larger outside fins and a small stabilizer in the middle. Image
I smacked them on to this spider board and by my surprise they ride amazing, looser in the pocket and I carve the guts out of anywave with these!!

I'm I nuts? is this supposed to work? what is your take and opinion on this?

Yo 'esonscar'!

i went surfing today , [I am from South Africa] a spot called 'Derdesteen' the locals in Cape Town will know this spot gets CRAZY  !
it wasn't to bad today, big swell hit yesterday and the day before so the banks are shaped a little bit better.
I got on a glassy 4ft and as i wanted to turn in the pocket the board slipped out, obviously because of the small [almost no-existent] stabilizer, these fins are more difficult to ride but when my back foot positioning is right i get a ridiculous amount of handling on the board!!
I replaced the back fin with a standard SF-5 half way through my session and it worked like a bomb :D !! it is a little stiffer!!! the side fins are still a little bigger than standard but works for me as I weigh 85kg and my board is small!

Hacked up a couple 5 footers and still have a smile on my face!!

Hahahahaha - nice one !

Yeah, 4 foot is 4 foot and a good session, but good effort on the 5 footers - that is the start of big surf in my book !

Whhoooooeeeeee :P !!!!!

I weigh 200lbs and shortboard. YU and Slater fins all use the smaller trailer, but I have found that even though I like the looseness of the board I was getting too much tail slip on bigger/steeper waves, so like you I swapped out the center fin.

Bigger fins means you loose a little bit of glide, just more fin protruding into the water which slows you down, even on my gun I use OCCY fins instead of size 7, and the Fins you are trying are bigger than 7.

If you want to try a good set up that is loose but also super glide try my favorites, GMB fins, I dig them.
