Surfcamp - Yes or no?

Postby !LH@N » Fri Apr 24, 2009 9:00 pm

Hi guys!
For a few years now I want to start surfing really really bad. But I do life on a very unsurfable place (central Europe, Berlin to be more exact). So I made the decision to save up some money and go surf. But then a question pops up.
Should I go to a surfcamp to get me started up or should I invest the money into (used) equipment and work on my own?

My thoughts are these:
-a surfcamp would get me started up pretty well and I wouldn't need to "fight" with the basics
-I went to a windsurfing camp once and found out that the basics are not that hard to learn, but even after one week of (intensive? no...not really, it was too cold) surfing I wasn't "really" surfing. I figured out I'd need way more practice than just one week (stupid me, how could I have been so naive to believe one week would be enough?). So...spending 200€ on a board rather than spending 200+€ for a surfing camp might not be that bad of an idea...

What do you think? Long and detailed posts are appreciated!

Regards,
Ilhan

long and detailed...

Up to you man :D, I just got a board on craigslist and started going out everyday. Think I'm getting in the way of the locals, don't try to :(. But I try my best to learn.

Surf trip - make friends with some surfers and ask for some tips and pointers.

Simple as that.

Have a good holiday :D

when i started i never would have thought how much you hurt the first day after,

if you where only there for a week it coul suck to be paying for lessons you didnt feel up to when you could have perhaps had a fourtnight half board , gone every other day and got more done.
