New longboard?

Postby samueladams » Sat Apr 18, 2009 9:05 am

I have a 7'9 mini mal and a 6'11 short board. I was thinking about getting a longboard but dont know anything about them. What shape should I get i.e. length, tail shape etc etc. I would surf the north and west coast of ireland if that helps.

Cheers

I suggest you get a classic 60's shape longboard (not a nose rider).

Good all round capability and quite noserideable too actually.

Consider the weight of the board more than the shape here - a heavier board will keep its line through chop, a lighter board will tend be knocked about a bit on the wave in non-perfect conditions.

Have a good one – and let us know how you get on :P

[ edit : oh yeah - 9 to 10 foot should do it :D ]

i also just ordered a new log. 9'x22 1/2"x2 3/4". pretty much a standard single fin noserider shape. slight single concave in the nose, double concave in front of the fin, through to a vee. squash tail. a modified 50/50 rail, on the shaper's recommendation and my thoughts, thinned out the rails a bit. your height/weight/skill/wave type is pretty much exactly the same as mine (i'm maybe 5 lbs lighter and and inch or two taller). best thing to do is contact a local shaper who can fit a board to your liking. he told me for this area, 50/50 rails are too snappy or something, i forget, but he suggested that i have thinned out rails. i was unsure about width/thickness, and he told me what to go with. good luck. i can't wait to get mine. he said should be finished this weekend
