My boots stink . My wetsuit rinses fine, but I cant seem to make my boots freshen up?

Any suggestions?

Is it the fact that all the pee accumulates there?

My missus thinks they are disgusting.

you can't beat dryin them in the airing cupboard and you misses opening the door to get something.......priceless

the best method to date is to soak in piss off and leave outside for a few days. the stench is slightly reduced

LOL yes you can! Stick them in the tumble dryer for a couple of hours! It hums the whole house out!

nah even if you dont they still stink, not sure how to stop boots from smelling, the only way i get my mitts to stop smelling is by turning them inside out and drying both sides...suppose with boots its not possible

Its doing it because they dry out too slowly and so mould spores begin to grow. Get in thru the washing machine to get it back to normal(ish) smell and when drying them in the future eaither put em on radiator or stuff with newspaper for a few hours then put em out to dry.

I wash the boots in warm water and then always dry them on the radiator and they are dry in a day but still smell. I think I'll add the newspaper to speed up drying *(provided the are not last nights fish and chips wrappers)

i just had some 5mm c skins and they stuck so bad i nearly threw up and i rinced them or washed them every time. however now they are stinking somewhere at c skins as the bottoms started coming off lol i was told the stink was down to the thick neoprean and the size of the litle air bubles in them not letting them ever fully dry my oneal 3mm's are no where near as bad.

I seem to have a "thing" for bad smells..... I initially hated the smell of my wettie when its been left for a while and then used again, but now im kinda warming to it...a car full of that smell and my body knows its off on a trip to the seaside!!

then again tho a certain type of rubbish bins brings back to me fond and happy memories of a trip to new york a few years ago so i guess i dont fit the usual curve for these things

The primary reason booties begin to smell is because they don't get dried thorougly. Here is what to do.

1. Clean the interior of the boots with a wet suit shampoo that contains nonoxynol-9. This is a proven anti-fungalcide. Many soaps and detergents contain it. The one I buy is called, "500psi Wetsuit/BC Wash & Conditioner" (http://www.scuba.com/scuba-gear-166/030 ... ioner.html). When you use it all the time and dry your booties completely all the time, you'll have no fungus growth and, therefore, no odor. If the booties stink a lot, then mix this stuff in real high concentration directly in the boot. Slosh it around a good while. Then drain, rinse, and go to step 2 below. By the way, where I live I can only surf using a suit and booites. I use this stuff on my suit, boots, and hat every time I finish surfing.

2. Dry the booties thoroughly every time after use/cleaning. I use a convection dryer from a hunting supply outfitter (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templ ... tid=149329). My light weight booties dry in 5 hours. My heavy booties dry in 8 hours. Since I have been using these dryers, i have never had wet booties on the following morning. My booties don't ever smell either. Another way to dry them is to turn them inside out.

^ billie sounds like a clean dude - I'd also suggest getting some Savlon stuff - (disinfectant, not bleach !) and whack a load in a bowl with cool tap water and leave the boots sit in there till you need them.

Give them a poke as you pass now and again to circulate the ‘stew’ – should do the trick by the time you need them next.

[ lucky for us farts bubble up and you can let those drift out of the neck of the suit by gracefully pulling it to one side whilst attempting to sniff clear air ! ].

Tea Tree oil is the answer! I gave it a go a while ago- just submerged my boots in a tub of water with a bit of tea tree oil mixed in, left them for a couple of days. You wouldn`t believe the difference!
