My problem with small surf on my shortboard

I am still learning how to rided a shortboard well and nearly everytime I catch a wave and I stand up my board goes straight down into the water. Adruptly, my face will hit the sand and it has been bothering me. It happened to me three times today, the waves were small and a little closer to shore so it would send me straight to the ground.

Also, when the waves are smaller like this it is hard for me to stand up, almost as if my legs are weighed down by the wave. Help on either question, please.

Are you trying surfing on the whitewater or the clean face of the wave ?

Your surfing a small shorebreak on a shortboard, whacha think would happen?

You need to catch larger clean faced waves and trim your board properly.

And to be brutaly honest get a clue and buy a longboard.

You need to build a quiver, you should have a seperate small wave board than your shortboard.

Yeah I have been trying to buy a fish or something small, just no cash right now. I figured that my board was to big to be doing what I was trying. It was just really flat today, so I paddled in and try to mess around on the shorebreak.

Shorebreaks on shortboards are for more experienced surfers.
On a mal its a bit easier if theres a bit of a peak peak outside into the shorie but still difficult. You need walling waves to learn on, not too fast, not too slow, not too hollow and not too weak. Or with being a beginner you will either snap your board or hurt yourself in shories. Probably both.

If you have a bodyboard they are good in shories and you can stand on them although dont take this sort of thing too seriously.Its lame compared to what you can do on a shortboard.
