First Board

Hi,

First off I want to say that I really enjoy this site, great info and it's been really helpful in getting started with surfing. I am about to get my first board, I am still very much a beginner but don't want to continue renting as I will have basically have paid for a board in no time. I am looking at a demo board from a shop, a Seven 6'8" Superfish, it's in good nick and comes with bag, leash etc... I am just wondering if anyone has any feed back on this board good or bad. Most of what I can see online is the company that makes the board touting it so I'd like to actually hear from someone who isn't paid to say it's a good board.

Im sure some of the others can comment on the brand as im not familiar with them. However a 6'8 may not be the way to go (although i dont think a 6'8 can be considered a fish anymore ) What are your specs , age,weight,height and are you catching green waves or still in the whitewater?

Oh on a side note what companies hypes on the internet is just that Hype for the most part anyway but i refrain from comment as i know zip about em

Do you mean the 7S boards?

ive not ridden one, but Ive seen them out in the line-up on small days. They look like a thick plank, in my opinion, but Ive seen at least one guy catching everything and absolutely shredding on one.

Then again, this was maroubra - Ive seen people shredding on a 7ft pink foamie

Looking at the dimensions and from what Ive seen, they take off very fast - not necessarily what you want for a board to learn on.

I've got a 7's super fish, catches wave just like a longboard, but regularly puts me on my face, mainly due to me being a bit of a kook, especially on pointy boards.

It would be fine for learning on though, if you're fit enough to paddle it a bit more, and are prepared to make things a bit harder for yourself than if you were on a longboard or mini mal.

Thanks for the advise, much appreciated. I won't be going with the 7S super fish. Basically it sounds like I should be on a mal or a longer short board. I've had my eye on a Wayne Parks 7ft 2" short board but the price is a bit much, sweet board though. I am going to check out a 7ft 2" Island Style tomorrow but do not know anything about the brand, price seems right and the board is in near new condition by the sounds of it. Fingers crossed.
