I was wondering what would be the diference in overall performance and of a modern fish (Rusty Piranha, Lost RNF) Vs a small wave board (Flyer, Lost Rocket)
Here in the winter time we dont get much waves at all. The only spot that works is a fast breaking beachbreak, and the waves during this days are weak ankle to shoulder high, with ocassional weak head high waves.
I already have a 6´3 Flyer 2 that works great for chest high waves and up, but i wanted a groveller board for the lousy days.
I got a 6´0 epoxy Rusty Piranha. It surprised me with it´s wave catcheability and because it makes even the lamest ankle high waves rideable and fun. Yet i felt it quite too big and tanky. And on bigger days, even though we are taking about "relatevely big weak" days, it is kind of hard to ride steep faces because its over 20 inches wide. So i want to ditch it and go smallerer.
Yet im struggling between getting a more traditional squatched PU thruster like a 5´11 Flyer or Rocket or an epoxy 5´9 or smaller Piranha or RNF in the quad version.
My main questions are if the (Flyer, Rocket) would be able to handle the lower than knee high days?.
Im thinking that maybe a 5´9 Piranha or RNF would be a better choice for a fun skatey board for these range of waves. But would it be bale to handle head high steep faces better than the 6´0 piranha i already got?
The 6´0 epoxy Piranha floats me by far. I have a love/hate relationship with its wide nose. I love the wave catchability/ i dislike how clumsy it feels compared to my flyer 2.
Thanks for any coments on the matter.
