OMG.. I woulda been shizing myself, I only surf in the UK, surfed in France once and it was terrible, all the french surfers wore garlic round their neck and catching all the waves in to bake baguettes.. but anyway, the only thing scary i have seen is a basking shark.. And that terrified me.. although i knew it was harmless i just felt like i was going to be eaten up by this massive monster.. although it was a good quarter mile away from me!! Seals I see all the time, im waiting for a wave then one just pops up right next to me, and im like right.. and there like right... and were both like right.. (all that takes is around 10 seconds) and his off..!!

But yeah thats the only thing i have seen, except for weaver fish!!! I've been stung by one of those, and When i went to the life guards i saw grown men sobbing their eyes out because alittle fish stung them, it was that painful! Until the lifeguard said we're going to have to put your foot in boiling water.. Then I realised why they were crying!! That was in a nice place called Lizard in Cornwall.. never been there again!

Apparently 25 sharks have been caught at the pier this week. They are out in schools, blacktip schools.

either that or a little more pollution due to the ships. I don't think our waters are as clean and clear as central or south FL

It's alright if the sharks piss you off, just as long as you're not pissing off the sharks.....

5 ft is when they get bad
i live on the west coast of florida so the only ones we get are the fatal ones.if u do see something big just paddle C A L M L Y back to shore
its just like when i go swimming in alligator lakes n such

me and my friends actually saw a great white one morning when surfing morro rock...about 25 yards out of the line up...it was about 8 feet from dorsal to tale so our guess was about 12-14 feet long, gave him the nickname the landlord.

I havent seen any sharks yet, but I surf in The Red Triangle which leads me to believe I prob wont see one until its to late if one really wants me. I did find this article funny http://www.uberreview.com/2008/03/shark ... -shark.htm
Its suppose to be a device to repel sharks, but during further testing a great white got aggrevated with the device and ate it, lol.

LOLRuss, I surf Ponce fairly often and I've experienced the same deal with Spinners launching out of the water. I've had 3 shark encounters there, and once saw 2 in the same day, about 20 minutes apart.

I recently moved to Smyrna and I've been surfing here more now but no shark encounters on this side of The Inlet yet.

Interesting. That may be true at The Inlet, but I've been surfing Flagler Ave. mainly, and cruised up to Bethune once or twice - no sharks at either of those spots yet.

I don't feel comfortable surfing down at The Inlet yet. I've been down there to scope it out and it's tougher to access as well, which is one factor. I am technically a "local" now... just don't have any history or friends down there. Gotta start somewhere I suppose.

It's more people venting mate. I don't think people are actually sour that there are sharks in the ocean.

Speaking of sharks, they closed my regular surf beach down yesterday because of a big great white hanging around. The freaky thing is I did a sunset/nightime surf there the night before while the shark would have been there. People have been eaten there before so it's a scary thought ;)

My mate and I did see moving shapes go under us but paid no attention to it. I wonder if....

Suppose if there were potentially man eating sharks here I would be more nervous.

LOTS of sharks here my bru....even saw one today while having a surf....not fun. It was about 3m long

I work on the beach, and I see quite a few. We spotted a 4m bull shark two weeks ago. had to move all the swimmers out the water

I have surfed when they are jumping out the water 2ft away from you. That day I got over my fear of sharks very quickly because there were so many! We got over them so fast its not even a joke

Come to South Africa. I can oath on my life you will see a few sharks within a year. Cape Town is pretty bad with the great whites. Here in Richards Bay its almost stupid how sharky it is here...

But they were in the water first, let them be the last in the water too
