Peniche surf camps and a little january travel advice

Postby aaron d » Wed Dec 17, 2008 12:55 pm

hello, still trying to decide how to get some not too demanding waves this january and thanks to some previous posts ive discovered peniche, and was wondering if anybody has any more feedback on the peniche surf camp or baia de peniche surf camps?
my dilemma is whether to do the whole surf camp goup lessons thing, which appeals to me for the camaraderie aspects, as ill be travelling alone, see the other option is to just get accom and board and go solo, but seing as its january, and im not sure how many people will be around, even more importantly will be in the water, i dont want to find myself alone on an empty beach..., though perhaps early january holidays will rule that out?
any feedback or general advice is, as always, greatly appreciated

Hello

I've been in Penche several times and you can be sure you will never surf alone because it is simple one of the best surf spots in Portugal and Europe, particularly in winter were the best eaves break. Spots like Super Tubes and Baleal are the best and will be with lots of people from every where in the world.

Have fun and good waves.

live here, believe me, even though you´ll find tons o uncrowded waves here in winter, you´ll hardly be alone.
good places to stay at are the surfcamps, as there are always some other guests. don´t stay in peniche, stay in baleal, from where you can walk to more than 4 different spots, working in different conditions.
check out maximum surfcamp for really good deals in winter.
(note: i work in that camp, so i should know;-)))
