THE PROTON ::

“A stable particle with a positive charge equal to the negative charge of an electron”

MODEL DESCRIPTION
This is the board that AL and Dane designed during his 2007 WCT qualification year. While traveling and surfing various types of waves, Dane found The Proton suited his surfing in all conditions. Original and truly unique from any other board in our line. This board has continuous rocker throughout. The bottom consists of a deep single concave, and full rails. Dane normally rides a 2 3/8” MBM and orders his Protons at 2 ¼”, so order yours a 1/8” thinner.

“I like the responsive, quick feeling I get out of the Proton, and I am excited to have this board as my model.” Quotes and logo - Dane Reynolds

WHO SHOULD RIDE THIS BOARD ::
Dane is a front footed surfer; he drives off the front foot for speed and transitions to his back foot for turns. Designed for one of the worlds most progressive surfers means the Proton has to be ridden aggressively.

SKILL LEVEL
Intermediate - Pro: 5 - 10

WAVE HEIGHT GUIDELINES
Waist-high to Head and a half

That´s about it.
My local shop has two of these boards a 6´6´´ and a 6´4´´ and i was trying to find out about how would they surf, besides all the "they are the xxxxx" stuff said by the employers at the shop, but i found no reviews out there at all.

Al has never shaped a board in his life! ! HA HA HA who in the F dosen't know about that???? so to see a company description of the likes is PR at it's best CI is a grossly entailed company with corporate greed behinde it.
Hmmm,,, Al himself has been invited to a great many shape off competitions and has pulled the no show cause he knows he's dead meat if his so called reputation is truley shown. HA HA HA HA AHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!! Don't believe it well look into it yourself ! ! he's a crap hole and is on of the reasons for china pop out's and the demise of clark foam ! ! ! as the board goes well I'll have to base it on design and the person at hand were talking about..

You said you just snaped your stick in 2,,,,,,,,, so what board were you surfing when it broke and where were you surfing and what was the surf like in conditions and how long or good are you at surfing or etc. ??????? if ya don't give a few more details then,,,,,,WTF ! ! ! how do you expect to have somebody help you with real truthfull answers vs a corporate jargen for an answer????? I've surfed every stick CI has and can help u for if not me than one of my bud's can voice up to help you.

HA HA Kinda both but more so on a factory desription anywho could get that bull only to you for the non info look man you'll love that board for where and how your surfing and what you were allready surfing on will match a proton I'd still tell ya to look at a K small to gives a lil more movement on the bigger pushes, Ither one works great though .Just try and get em with Future fin box or the new FCS Fusion not old style fcs plugs.

Ya i know im getting a board from a ghost shaper if i go with CI so i didnt understand why that would be directed at me. Ya... my only complaint with the MBM was that when pumping I felt i had to transition to more push with my back foot to get up to speed when id naturally rather use more of my front. I know the factory description says it will but id rather take someones firsthand opinion Also i was just wondering how the proton turns, I know its great for airs but i wanna be able to throw a big ol' hack when i feel like it too :D ... I split my time between OC and Santa Barbara breaks, so would it also work well at SB pointbreaks?

HA HA HA no worries bro ha ha nothing neg directed at you ha ha So let's see mixed use board for a multitude of crazy surf conditions and you want to be able to rip some turns and spray tonage of water than the K-Small is in order I think you'll be happyer with it's "better handiling" or the K board allthough I think the K small is better suited for the crappy days as well as it works great in bigger stuff. I found the Proton needed a solid amount of drive behind it for it to perform well and as turns,, well,,,,,,, to greatly improve it fin change was in order. On the face or for air it's a great board as in turns,,,, no chalange compared to a K small and when a K small get's matched with your grove and pos some killer fins hmmm thinking great air and cuts off the lips. and yea the MBM would have some of the simmalar rear drive/pump that the Proton has and the flyer, flyer 2 the k and k small are for sure front foot drivers.

HMMMM nice Question !! since I havent done or seen a quad K-Small but love my quad Podunk with simalar lines would hace to say 4 rips it and is a great match for the potential speed the board has. But keep in mind 4 allways has more lift so it will be needin a lil more ass push to controll the speed/turns and I belive your looking for front foot gas pedal and rear foot/body turner so undoubtably a standard 3 fin thruster base is in order if you want to acheve that. I'm happy with the quad Podunk with simalar lines way less effort in the speed/brake department and as for turning well um yea it turns so fast I eat shizz plenty as drive and lift goes well of couse 4 is more the 3 fin thruster I have in podunk and CI and are way more front foot prone(gas) rear foot (break) traditional. 3 fin has a looser tailfor obvious reasons and is your standard config. The quad vs 3fin thruster =50/50,, depends on what you want the quad holds more speed outta a turn than a 3 fin and is tight vs loose. Anouther sick one my bud has wich is a do all and a fun stable ripper is a quad MBM, but you allready hade one or at least the 3 fin, I know the 4 fin is way more responsive overall so you might want to consider it again. Sucks bro hate it when the board break thing occurs and your shopin for a new stick and when it's lot's of $$$$$ well,,, than yea buy right not twice or live with a regret your purchace board. Good luck.

Support your local shapers, Al Merrick got famous by making friends with pro surfers and catering to their shaping needs, not really for discovering anything new about boards. What he know is what works for the pro's he helped, but not much past that. Now a days he doesn't really shape, he markets, and apprently he is doing preety good at marketing, but I would rather have someone with knowlege hand-make my board than someone with knowlege order a chinese factory worker to make it.
