Best small wave shortboard for bachbreaks

Rewarding another thread i recently started.
I was wondering about your opinion on the best small wave groveler board for beachbreaks.

I already have a funboard, ( i find it boring at small waves and it sucks at chasing down peaks and sprinting fast for sudenly apearing waves).
I already have tested several lets say "not for small waves" shortboards (that were intended for head high waves with thin rails) that were tricky to catch small waves with and also tended to bog at turns.
I tried out 2 big 6´3 and 6´4 flyers, a 6´6 epoxy mullet and some huge fishes that felt like tanks. I had a better time with my funboard than on these beasts.

And the board that i felt better all around at this types of waves is a 6´3 flyer 2 that i own. But the diference with the oher flyers is that it is extremely narrow at 18 1/2 and thin at 2 1/4 compared to the other ones.

So i am trying to get my hands on something that surfs like that board but that would catch smaller or gutless waves easier. I think that a 5´11 18 3/4 X 2 1/2 Flyer could be the one, since i´m 5´10 and weight 155 pounds but maybe there are other choices out there that i dont know about.

I have seen guys with smallish modern and classic fish boards at the beachbreak i am refering to, yet i know that those boards have to be surfed diferently than a thruster. I would prefer a board that resembles the most a thruster.

depends really on the waves at the break. some beaches break hollow and fast, some slow etc same as reefs and points too depending on the swell etc.

as for the question, would talk to a shaper really. maybe size of the board you've mentioned might be a bit small but the width and thickness seem pretty decent.

you looking at buying a brand new board? second hand?

I will do my best to find a second hand board. The onlky problem i see is that i live in mexico where the used board market isnt as big as in the States.

The beachbreak i mainly surf at breaks kind of hollow and fast. On winter the surf ranges from shin high to head high. But even the head high waves lack the strenght that even smaller summer waves at the same beach have. The small size, hollowness/steepness, fast breaking speed and small size are the reason why long or big boards aint the answer im looking for.

I have been ofered a brand new 6´0 tufflite piranha.
The best part is that i wouldnt have to pay anything since i´ll be trading in my 6´6 Byrne Mullet.

As a deal it is a great one since the mullet has far more use, and the 6´0 piranha eventhough its a little too big for my weight, fits me better than the byrne.

How do you guys think that the Rusty will perform at the break i described for someone with my weight and height. If i could have chosen i would have gone 2 inches lower, maybe even more since its a tufflite.

Tufflite can be (kind of) okay for small stuff, it gets skittish on bigger. I'm NOT a fan though.

My generic answer would be roughly 5'10 x 18 1/2 to 19 x 2 3/8 or 2 5/16, poly, single to double concave, swallow or squash tail, thruster.

Say, 5'10 x 18.5 x 2.31 ... in that range maybe?

most beachbreaks where i live tend to be a bit more steeper on the take offs. id recommend something with a bit more nose rocker if your beachbreak is steep too
