Australia June/July

Postby scsupergrom » Fri Jan 21, 2005 2:56 am

Hey
I might go to Coolangatta, Sydney, Melbourne, and Tasmania in mid June until early July. How long should I stay in Coolangatta so I'm sure to get a swell? Also, do Sydney and the Bells Beach area get good this time of year?
Thanks
Matt

Also, I don't want to bring a board because of so many airport fees, hassle, etc. What should I do so I get a good-quality board in Coolangatta, Melbourne, and Sydney?

hey,
Haven't actually surfed the breaks you are talking about ( alittle out of my league as a beginner) but from what i have seen don't stay at coolengatta to long .. you can travel up the coast about 10km or so all the way to surfers paradise where they have the wtc. you will find great swell at Burleigh heads all the way to snapper rocks all year round.. and water stays fairly warm. Most places around the coast of Australia have places that you can either buy a good second hander or hire one for that matter. Locals are usually pretty friendly but don't what ever you do ask so kid in a city surf shop ! Hot tip...melbourne is freezing in the winter!!!

Hi, say, that's where I am planning to go soon, how did you like the Hyatt, was it the one in Coolum?
Do you know how far away it is to the surf school there?
Contact me if you have any pictures to share :)

Coolangatta...surrounded by kirra, rainbow bay, snapper rocks, D-Bar is close by, as is Burleigh (lots of good breaks and points). The surf right along the coast is pumping at the moment. 6 foot swell the past few days and is predicted to push up to 8 foot this weekend. When it goes off it is awesome. The gold coast isnt too exciting though, so i wouldnt stay in coolie (coolangatta) for more than a week or two. I know of a surf school at burleigh (about 15mins drive from coolie or 40mins in a bus).
