Indo Surf

Postby norfolksurferdude » Sun Nov 23, 2008 11:28 am

Ive heard so much about Indonesia and how amazing it is but I have also heard that there are loads of sea snakes, saltwater crocs, sharks, etc. I dont know how much of this is true but if there are any indo veterans on here, which im sure there are, any info, advice of tales about indo would be sweet. I also wanted to know if the book Indo Surf told you what the dangers were in certain areas, etc. Cheers

be more worried about hitting the reef, crowds, sunburn, airline charges and the soul destroying long haul flight

Malaria! Ever think of that? Pop those pills to return home without that bitch of a disease. In some places in Indo Iv heard that its safer staying on a boat for the night because of how hectic the malaria is.

In our South African surfing magazine (Zig Zag), they always have an article of Indo, and seeing that I wanna go there after I finish school, I read every article that they print about it. They have never really said anything about sharks, sea snakes, and so on, but they are more concerned about hitting the reef and catching malaria than anything else...

Look, apparently the food, accomidation, and beer is cheap, so it should be cool. But the locals can get heavy apparently, so dont piss them off. But in the end, its so worth the wave!!

thought the locals were cool, didnt have any problems apart from 2 feisty brazilian chicks at ulu's who just dropped in on everyone

wasnt crazy bout the crowds tho

thought bali was a bit of a tourist trap, if your going for purely surf get outa bali

as for sea life, was warned about reef sharks at cobblestones in sumbawa but never saw any

Get a pair of snug booties, unless you enjoy walking in ankle deep water on jagged rocks. Make sure your passport doesn't expire during the trip... I had to cough up $100 just to get past the airport official.. :x I only seen a sea snake when I was snorkeling and once at night. They don't seem aggressive, or I would be dead haha.
