Perfect Gap Year

Postby norfolksurferdude » Sat Nov 22, 2008 4:47 pm

Hi, Im sure there are loads of people on the forum who have taken surfing gap years, just wanted to know what countries you went too, for how long etc and also where you the best places to go on a gap year would be? Imagine you have one year to surf and thats it, where would you go? I know there is already a similar post but that guy already had an idea on where he wanted to go. Don't worry about budget etc.
Cheers

If I had to spend one year to live there and surf, I would go to Australia. Warm water, plenty of swell, crowd might be a problem(dunno do some spot hunting throughout the coast). Going to places like fiji or indo for 1 year would be a little bit uncomfortable since the country is underdevloped. There would be thing that I would like to have such as cable tv, deparment store and etc in that country.

Its all up to you and your preference, just think analytically.

I am hoping to go to Costa Rica within the next year or 2 or maybe Indo. But either way I am going to Hawaii in May.

For me it would be central America...love the culture, great waves, cheap, learn Spanish, beautiful women, good food, warm water.

Nicaragua, Costa, and Panama are all choice, and so is El Sal........wherever you go....just go!!

Summer in France, fly to LA, quick detour to Costa Rica, back up to LA, on to Hawaii, then Tahiti, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, New Zealand for its summer, then on to oz for Autumn (avoiding Sydney which is full of poofters and drug dealers), then Indonesia, with a quick stop in Dubai on the way back to the UK to score a cheap laptop ready for university.

That lot should get you a few waves and show you some different cultures.
