"Shredder 9.0" - decent beginner board?

First post on this forum - Hi!

I'm a bit of a newbie - been out in Pacifica, Ca 3-4 times now, and am really enjoying myself I'm able to stand up on the whitewater, and have even managed to turn the board a bit a few times too

I bought the cheapest board I could find ($100!), and have been able to find out very little about it. I was hoping someone on this forum might know something about it, and could tell me:

1. How long will it be useful to me? (in terms of skill level, rather than time!)
2. What will it stop me from being able to do (as opposed to, say, a pop-out or a custom board)?

The board is a 9' soft board with a spongy, porous-appearing light blue top-surface and a shinier spongy white bottom surface. On the top, there is an oval logo and the words "Shredder 9.0". At the tail is a sticker that says "Made in Brazil".

From googling it, I found this website, which seems to be the only one that sells them:

I know there is a brand called "Liquid Shredder" which seems to get favourable reviews as a beginner board, but I think this is a different board?

It'll be OK for paddling out, catching the foam, and learning how to stand up, but that's about it (I think - never ridden one myself). It's the sort of board surf schools use.

What I doubt it would do very well, is turn. That's a bit of a problem.

You didn't pay much for it, and will probably be able to sell it for similar money, which would be worth doing and going for something a bit more like a "proper" surfboard if you do decide to keep surfing.

Bottom line, I think it would start to get in the way of your progress quite quickly.

ach, i kinda figured that might be the answer...

Ah well, I'm not at that stage yet... I'll keep going until I can reliably stand up on a proper wave (I keep pearling atm), then put it back on craigslist and go for something a bit more appropriate

yep given yourself sum good advice there.

Honestly I wouldnt bother much more with the foamie.

Its likely to cause as many problems as it solves, it could well be the reason behind some of your pearling and even if you get it right on it you'll have to relearn most of it on a new board.

Get a more capable (but easy going) longboard.
